Today's Schedule

10:20 AM
Arrive Orvieto. Park at Campo della Fiera (free, large). Funicular to Porta Albano (€1.30). Walk 10 min to Piazza del Duomo.
10:35 AM
Orvieto Cathedral exterior — 15 minutes studying Lorenzo Maitani's sculpted pilaster reliefs (Genesis, Life of the Virgin, Last Judgment). The gilded facade in morning light is exceptional.
10:50 AM
Cappella di San Brizio (€6 combined ticket): Signorelli's Last Judgment cycle (1499–1504) and Fra Angelico's vault medallions. Allow 50–60 minutes minimum.
11:50 AM
Orvieto Underground guided tour (Piazza del Duomo 23): aim for the 12:15 PM departure slot. Reserve in advance for groups of 14. Etruscan caves, medieval olive mills, cisterns. 60 minutes.
2:30 PM
Depart Orvieto. Drive 30 minutes south on SR71 toward Bagnoregio.
3:00 PM
Arrive Bagnoregio. Park in main car park (~€1–2/hr). Take the yellow shuttle bus to the bridge base (~€1–2 each way) or walk 20 minutes on foot.
3:20 PM
Cross the pedestrian bridge to Civita di Bagnoregio (€5 entry, ~10-minute walk — sustained incline, steep final push to the gateway). Allow 1.5–2 hours in the village: Church of San Donato (free), Geological and Landslides Museum, Via Santa Maria, viewpoints over the Valle dei Calanchi. The calanchi views in afternoon September light are extraordinary.
5:00 PM
Depart Civita and Bagnoregio. Begin return to Cortona via SR2 north. Return ~6:45 PM.
